Each year on Earth Day, people across the world take a moment to reflect on the health of our planet and the small changes we can all make to protect it.
For us at Tyn Dwr Hall, caring for the environment isn’t something we think about once a year. It’s something that influences how we run the venue every single day.
Weddings are wonderful celebrations of love, generosity and gathering. But like any large event, they can also create waste if we’re not thoughtful about how they are planned.
That’s why sustainability has quietly become one of our passion projects here at the Hall. From the way we maintain our grounds to the choices we make behind the scenes, we aim to host beautiful celebrations while respecting the natural surroundings that make this place so special.
Tyn Dwr Hall sits within seven acres of gardens and woodland in the Welsh countryside.
The trees, wildlife, open skies and changing seasons are part of what make weddings here feel so magical. Couples often tell us that the setting itself creates a sense of calm and connection that can’t quite be replicated elsewhere.
Because of that, protecting the environment around the Hall feels incredibly important to us.
It’s not just a backdrop for weddings – it’s part of the story of the venue itself.
Many of the ways we approach sustainability happen quietly in the background.
We work closely with local suppliers and producers, helping reduce unnecessary travel while supporting nearby businesses and communities.
Our kitchens focus on sourcing ingredients thoughtfully and preparing food with care, reducing waste wherever possible.
Across the venue we’re constantly looking for small improvements that help us minimise our environmental impact while still delivering the high standard of hospitality couples expect.
These choices might not always be visible to guests, but they matter to us.
Because we’re surrounded by natural landscape, we’re careful about what we allow within the grounds.
Certain items that can harm wildlife or leave lasting environmental impact simply aren’t something we feel comfortable introducing into the space. Instead, we encourage couples to consider alternatives that are kinder to the environment while still creating wonderful moments.
For example:
• Natural confetti made from dried petals rather than paper or plastics
• Reusable décor where possible
• Avoiding items that may damage the gardens or local wildlife
These small decisions help ensure that the venue remains beautiful for future couples and future generations.
The lovely thing about modern weddings is that couples are increasingly interested in making environmentally thoughtful choices themselves.
Some simple ideas we often see include:
• Seasonal flowers from local florists
• Edible wedding favours or small keepsakes guests will genuinely use
• Digital invitations or recycled paper stationery
• Repurposing ceremony flowers later in the day
• Sharing leftover flowers with hospitals or care homes after the wedding
None of these changes take away from the beauty of the celebration. In many cases, they add meaning and intention.
At the end of the day, weddings are about bringing people together to celebrate love.
When those celebrations happen in beautiful natural surroundings, it feels only right to treat that setting with care.
For us, sustainability isn’t about perfection. It’s about making thoughtful choices, protecting the landscape around us and encouraging celebrations that feel joyful without leaving unnecessary impact behind.
This Earth Day, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken – and excited about the many ways couples continue to bring creativity and care into their celebrations.
