Little Ones at Big Weddings

Should you invite children to your wedding? Let’s talk about it.

When it comes to wedding guest lists, one topic always gets people talking — children. Do you invite them? Or do you gently ask parents to enjoy a child-free day? The truth is, there’s no right or wrong. It all comes down to your vision for the day, your family dynamics, and what feels most ‘you’.

For some, a wedding is a grown-up celebration — a chance to sip champagne, reconnect with old friends, and dance into the early hours without the bedtime routine. For others, it’s about family in every sense of the word, and that includes the little ones — nieces, nephews, children of close friends, or even your own.

And then there’s the middle ground: including children for part of the day or creating special ways to make them feel part of the moment without compromising the flow of your celebration.

Whatever you decide, here are some ways to embrace little ones at big weddings — without the stress.

1. Give them a role to play

Children love to feel important — so if they’re attending, give them a role that makes them feel included. Whether they’re walking down the aisle as a flower girl or paige boy, handing out confetti, or simply welcoming guests with a big grin, little ones shine when they have a job to do.

2. Keep their tummies (and hands!) happy

We know kids aren’t usually dreaming about duck confit or panna cotta — which is why our children’s menu is full of delicious, familiar favourites they’ll love. We also offer a snack bag during the drinks reception to keep little fingers busy. And if you’re feeling extra thoughtful, consider a mini activity bag as their wedding favour — full of crayons, puzzles or treats to keep them entertained at the table.

3. Let them play!

Children need room to roam, and thankfully, we’ve got plenty. Garden games are a brilliant way to help little ones burn off energy while the grown-ups enjoy fizz and canapés. From oversized Connect Four to lawn dominoes, simple play can go a long way.

4. Create a ‘quiet corner’ for downtime

For weddings with a few more children in attendance, hiring a nanny or childcare professional can be a game-changer. We can transform our cosy Snug into a relaxed playroom — ideal during speeches or more formal moments when little legs start to get restless. Think crafts, songs, soft toys and story time — it gives everyone a breather (especially parents).

5. Make the most of staying over

Having your guests stay on site makes everything easier — especially when little ones are in tow. If a child needs a nap, a change of clothes, or a moment to recharge with their favourite teddy, it’s all right here. Our family rooms and accessible spaces mean no one needs to miss out.

6. Let them dance (or skid across the floor on their knees)

Let’s face it — some of the best moves on the dance floor come from the kids. Whether they’re spinning in flower girl dresses or sliding across the ballroom on their knees in formal trousers, they bring a kind of joy that’s hard to beat.

However you do it — do it your way

Whether you’re keeping things adults-only, throwing open the doors to all ages, or somewhere in between, just know: this is your day, and there are no rules. We’ll help you make it work.

And if you need a hand deciding, we’ve seen it all — from toddlers in tuxedos to sleepy little ones tucked up with their grandparents while the party continues. We’re always here to chat things through.
