Hair, Make‑Up & Dressing: Your Morning Timeline Made Easy

How to prepare for a 1pm wedding ceremony at Tyn Dwr Hall — without the 6am panic

Wedding mornings are emotional, exciting… and often filled with a little unnecessary stress. One of the most common questions we’re asked is:

“Can we arrive really early to start hair and make-up? Like, 6am?”

The good news? You don’t need to. You have more time than you think.

Here’s a practical and reassuring guide for couples planning their morning around a 1pm ceremony — with all the timings, tips and insider tricks you’ll need.

When Can We Access the Dressing Room?

At Tyn Dwr Hall:

  • Standard access is from 10am on the day of your wedding.

  • Earlier access from 8am is possible if there is no wedding the day before — just ask!

  • We’ll confirm this for you in advance, and it’s often possible for stylists to begin initial prep before moving on-site at 10am.

The Ideal Morning Timeline (for a 1pm Ceremony)

Below is a suggested schedule for a bride and 3 others (e.g., two bridesmaids and a parent):
Time What Happens
8:00am–9:30am Stylists arrive (home or here) to start early prep — like pinning hair or prepping skin. Bridal party rotates through styling (45–60 mins each).
9:30am–10:00am Travel to Tyn Dwr Hall and settle in (if you haven’t already). Stylists set up again. Light breakfast or fizz time.
10:00am–11:30am Final hair and make-up at the venue. Bride goes second-to-last to keep the look fresh.
11:30am–12:00pm Into the dress or suit. Final touch-ups and accessories.
12:00pm–12:30pm Photographer keeps taking “getting ready” shots. Flowers arrive. First-look, if planned.
12:30pm–12:45pm Everyone ready. Calm moments. Top-up lipstick, hugs, maybe a little happy tear.
1:00pm Ceremony begins. You look incredible.

Top Tips from Stylists

Hair and make-up artists are used to early starts and wedding timelines. Here’s what most of them will tell you:

  • Day-old hair is best – freshly washed hair can be too soft to hold curls or pins. Wash the day before unless your stylist advises otherwise.

  • Make-up usually goes before hair, so they can blend into the hairline. But some stylists prefer the opposite – trust their process.

  • The bride is often styled second-to-last – not first – so the look is freshest for the ceremony and photos.

  • They may start prepping you at a different location, like your home or a nearby hotel, then move over to the venue at 10am to finish up.

  • The more people, the more stylists. If you are planning a larger bridal party then your stylist will advise you and simply bring more crew to the party. This means your timings can always be kept strict.

Dressing & Final Moments

Once hair and make-up are complete, give yourself time to:

  • Use the bathroom (trust us, do this before the dress!)

  • Get into your dress or suit without rushing

  • Add perfume, jewellery, cufflinks or accessories

  • Take a few deep breaths — or sips of something bubbly

  • Smile for those candid “getting ready” photos

Even with access from 10am, you still have at least three full hours at the venue to get ready. And with stylists starting elsewhere, you’re perfectly on track for a calm, happy walk down the aisle.

What if we’re getting ready together?

That doesnt affect your timings but we’d suggest different locations to dress from, so you can both see each other finished as you’re about to walk down your aisle.

Guys, We Haven’t Forgotten You

While bride’s preperations often gets most of the spotlight, we know the gents have their own important rituals too — and we’re here for it.

Generally speaking, grooms and groomsmen need far less time to get ready, which is why you’ll often see them enjoying a relaxed breakfast or even a quick game of pool before getting dressed. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t a few things to plan:

Haircuts

  • Book in for a fresh cut 3–5 days before the wedding — it’ll still look sharp but not too sharp.
  • Avoid doing anything dramatically new for the big day (unless it’s already been trialled before). The last thing you want is a hairdo you can’t undo.

Grooming

  • A little skincare in the weeks running up can go a long way — hydrated, rested skin looks great in photos.
  • Consider a clean shave or tidy beard trim on the morning of — but take your time and don’t rush it!

Getting Dressed

  • Allow 30–45 minutes for getting into suits, pinning buttonholes, sorting ties or cravats.
  • Try everything on a week before to make sure it fits comfortably (and avoid last-minute panics).

Picture-Ready

  • The photographer will often swing by mid-morning for some relaxed shots — tying ties, fastening cufflinks, laughing with your groomsmen — so being half-dressed and halfway through a laugh is ideal.
