So whether you’re already knee-deep in Pinterest boards or still getting used to calling each other “fiancé,” here’s how to make those first few steps feel exciting, not overwhelming.

1. Celebrate the Moment

Before anything else, take a breath. Share the news with your favourite people. Pop the bubbles. Enjoy being in that blissful just-engaged bubble before diving into the details. It’s a chapter worth savouring.

2. Start with the Big Picture

Rather than jumping straight to colours or cakes, begin with some bigger questions:

• When do you want to get married?

• What season feels most ‘you’?

• Do you want a big party or something more intimate?

• What’s your ballpark budget?

These answers will help shape everything else.

4. Be Ready for Deposits

Once you start shortlisting venues and suppliers, it’s a good idea to have some funds ready. Many suppliers, including venues, work on a first-come, first-served basis — so if you fall in love with something (or somewhere), you’ll likely need to pay a deposit to secure your date.

For Tyn Dwr Hall, we only ever host one wedding per day — so when it’s gone, it’s gone. We’re always transparent with our pricing and deposit process, and we’re happy to talk you through what to expect so you can feel confident and prepared.

5. Book Your Venue — Then Everything Gets Easier

Once your venue is booked, the rest of the planning puzzle starts to fall into place. You’ll have a confirmed date, a clear location, and a team on hand to guide you through next steps.

We recommend sorting your ceremony provider next — whether that’s a registrar, faith leader, or celebrant. These services can book up quickly, especially for peak dates, so don’t leave it too long!

After that? Let the fun begin:

• Start your dress or suit search — especially if you’re looking at made-to-measure or designer pieces, as these can take a year or more to arrive.

• Secure your most-loved suppliers, such as photographers, videographers, hair and makeup artists, florists or live music acts.

• Begin thinking about style, tone and all the little personal details.

6. Stay Open and Curious

There’s no “right” way to plan a wedding — it’s your story, your way. Some couples dive in with a clear vision, others build theirs over time. Don’t be afraid to explore, ask questions, and follow your instincts.
